GoalThe goal with massage is to relieve muscle tension and fascial restriction; stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system (bring horse to a relaxed state), and overall maintain the overall health of the horse.
By achieving this goal we can improve flexibility and proprioception; help facilitate homeostasis during healing; decrease performance recovery; and help the body be more efficient in eliminating metabolic waste. |
Benefits to Individual Systems:Massage can influence and have positive effects on all of the bodies systems:
Cardiac: improve circulation and oxygen supply to cells Digestive: stimulates peristalsis (digestion), liver and kidney function Nervous: pain relief and stimulation of motor nerves Lymph: stimulation of the lymphatic system by draining stagnant lymph nodes and movement of lymphatic waste. |
